COCOA PRODUCTS

The cocoa-based products sector in Türkiye began with the production of ancient Turkish sweets. The first sugar beet factory was opened in Uşak in 1926, and there has been a slow increase in the production of products like Turkish delight and halva. This trend continued with the establishment of other sugar factories across the country and the number of small workshops producing traditional sweet products increased. At the same time, Türkiye's first chocolate factory commenced operations, introducing consumers to chocolate. With the establishment of the first starch-based sugar factory in Adana, there has been an increase in the diversity of raw materials and production in the sector. With the liberalization of trade, the sector has evolved to use not only traditional production methods but also modern production technologies. The development of trade and the increase in incentives have led to an increase in investments. This situation has not only enabled the growth of the cocoa-based products sector but also the growth of other sectors that produce raw materials, auxiliary materials, and packaging.

Today, chocolate and confectionery products are produced in almost every province and district in Türkiye. The sector includes large, medium, and small-scale enterprises. The cocoa-based products industry holds a significant position in the food sector and has developed the raw material, auxiliary material, and packaging industries.
