SUGAR and SUGAR PRODUCTS

In Türkiye, the sugar and confectionery products sector dates back to the period when traditional Turkish sweets such as Turkish delight (lokum) and halva were produced in small workshops. Today, it has evolved into a sector that utilizes modern production technology in addition to these traditional manufacturing methods. The sector occupies a significant place within the food industry, developing critical sub-industries with its use of raw materials, auxiliary substances, and packaging materials.

Sugar and confectionery products are produced in almost every province and district in Türkiye, with large, medium, and small enterprises operating within this sector. The sector's product range is quite broad, and manufacturing companies can make changes to their equipment to produce various products at different times. Production in large factories is typically carried out in three shifts, while small businesses may operate in a single shift or even have seasonal production periods.

Confectioneries are produced through processes such as melting, cooking, shaping, cooling, and packaging. Enterprises using modern production technology employ separate production lines for each product variety, necessitating high fixed investments. Sugar products exhibit seasonal consumption patterns, with demand increasing particularly during the winter months and religious festivals. Therefore, manufacturing companies make significant expenditures for stockpiling. Per capita consumption of confectionery products in Türkiye has been increasing in recent years. The country's young population and current consumption levels indicate that demand for sector products will continue to rise steadily in the future.
